What is Solidarism?
Solidarism is a system of non-monetary trade with the objective to save our species from the effects of global climate change. It neither supports or denounces common ownership of resources or the common ownership of the means to production of goods and services.
It is a political idea based on the assumption that people want to work and contribute, as well as the notion that they (we) need to feel necessary.
Solidarism is also the given name to a registered non-profit organization with focus on spreading the concept.
Aspects of consideration
In a system change, it is important to respect that individuals do not want to lose any privileges or material wealth (land included). Freedom is a highly valued asset which I have found no one willing to give up under any circumstances. Therefore, all mention of common ownership, with a beacon signal of lesser freedom, can be expected to be strongly rejected.
Influencing ideas
Professor Noam Chomsky is an individual that needs recognition for the insights he has provided. Mr Chomsky is recognized as one of our times most intellectual persons. Requiem for the American Dream (the film) gives great insight into how wealth yields a concentration of power to obtain further wealth. More importantly, the monetary effects described are not secluded to the USA – but are very evident throughout the modern economic civilization. The enormity of the influential monetary powers described by Professor Chomsky should put to rest any misconceptions of the possibility for peaceful democratic reform from the current neo-liberalistic capitalistic system towards a lesser polarising financial system.
Other alternatives
Many economists have presented alternative financial ideas. These mainly include legislative changes and alternative regulation to what is current. However, regardless of which system we have, it is important to remember that the financial system has both historically and cyclically worked very well. Citing Professor Noam Chomsky, the financial system worked quite well up until the 1980s.
